At American Mane, your journey to restored confidence doesn’t end when your hair transplant procedure is complete—it’s only just begun. Proper post-operative care is critical to ensuring optimal growth, minimizing complications, and preserving the long-term results of your new hairline. Here’s everything you need to know about what to do—and what to avoid—after your hair transplant.

✅ The Do’s: What to Do After Your Hair Transplant

1. Follow Our Clinic's Instructions Carefully

You’ll receive personalized aftercare instructions from your surgical team. This typically includes how to wash your scalp, medication schedules, and tips for minimizing swelling. Stick to this guidance religiously.

2. Sleep With Your Head Elevated

To reduce swelling in the first 3–4 days, sleep at a 45-degree angle with your head elevated. Consider using two pillows or a recliner.

3. Use Saline Spray (If Recommended)

A gentle saline mist can help keep the transplanted area hydrated and aid in healing.

4. Be Gentle When Washing

You can typically begin gentle washing 48 hours post-op. Avoid direct water pressure and rubbing—use a cup to pour water gently and a mild shampoo.

5. Wear Loose, Front-Open Clothing

Avoid pulling anything over your head that could disturb the grafts. Stick to shirts that button or zip up for the first week.

6. Protect Your Scalp From the Sun

Avoid direct sunlight for at least 7–8 weeks. A light, breathable hat can offer protection if you must be outdoors.

7. Stay Hydrated and Eat Nutritiously

Proper hydration and a nutrient-rich diet (especially with vitamins like B7/Biotin and Zinc) support healing and new hair growth. ❌ The Don’ts: What to Avoid After a Hair Transplant

1. Don’t Touch, Scratch, or Pick at Your Scalp

Even if it itches—don’t scratch. Picking at scabs can dislodge grafts and lead to scarring or infection.

2. Avoid Smoking and Alcohol

Both restrict blood flow and impair healing. Avoid alcohol for at least 7 days, and refrain from smoking for at least 2 weeks—ideally longer.

3. No Strenuous Exercise for 14 Days

Sweat and physical strain can increase the risk of infection and dislodge grafts. Light walking is fine, but avoid workouts, swimming, and saunas.

4. Don’t Apply Ice or Creams Directly on the Transplant Area

Ice can help reduce swelling, but only apply it to your forehead, not the transplanted zone.

5. Don’t Wear Tight Hats or Helmets

Avoid anything that applies pressure on the transplanted area for at least 10–14 days. If needed, opt for a loose, soft cap.

6. Avoid Hair Styling Products

No gels, waxes, sprays, or dyes for at least a month post-transplant. Let your scalp heal naturally without added chemicals. The first 10–14 days after a hair transplant are crucial. Taking the right steps—and avoiding common mistakes—can make the difference between good and exceptional results.
